Hijuelos' novel "The Mambo Kings" became a major Hollywood movie starring, Antonio Banderas and Celia Cruz making a guest appearance. Hijuelos chronicles his life as the child of pre- revolutionary Cuban immigrants in the rough part of New York City in the early 50's and his coming of age. He discusses identity, family, love, Latin music and jazz.

Maestra captures the element of joy and creativity that characterizes revolutionary change. We feature a panel discussion with the filmmaker Catherine Murphy discussing how and why she made this inspiring, upbeat film.

- New music by an interesting Mexican folklore band, Pa ‘sumecha from their new experimental CD called "Son Jarocho". Son Jarocho refers to a musical dance form, where the percussion is provided by the dancers feet on a board. The musicians sing the various verses.
