¨  John Santos discusses his upcoming Dia de los Muertos Concert at the Brava Theatre in San Francisco and a lecture series onFilosofía Caribeña: Music as Identity and Resistance “ in conversation with Julieta Kusnir.

¨  Artist Ana Cardona, describes the art installation  dedicated to the on going memory of Daniel del Solar at the Somarts Gallery in San Francisco currently on exhibit.

¨  New Yorican comedian Bill Santiago discusses his comedy show with Nina Serrano, this weekend at La Pena in Berkeley. He offers a pair of free tix to the lucky winner.

¨   Amelia Gonzalez tells about the Meso-American roots of chocolate and describes the chocolates her shop, Casa de Chocolates developed for Dia de los Muertos.

Cronicas De La Raza - KPFA FM


In tonight's program we bring you the voice of Isaac Saney an expert on Cuban economy, society and politics who shares with us his perspective on the recent economic and social changes taking place in Cuba. We also here about the upcoming first ever Son Jarocho Festival in the Bay Area that will be coming up in August. And of course we bring you great music in between, featuring the music of local band Orquestra la Moderna Tradicion and Los Cojolites.   • Nina Serrano speaks with Carolina de Robertis who reads from her new page-turning novel “Perla”, about the children of the disappeared in Argentina.
  •  Julieta Kusnir in conversation with Dr. Greg Landau about his summer course at SF City College about Cuban culture today.

  • Julieta Kusnir discuss the upcoming production of “Placas: The Most Dangerous Tattoo” with the playwright, Paul Flores. This play is based on extensive research on gangs and the Salvadoran diaspora.
  • Nina Serrano interviews La Pena Cultural Center’s outgoing director, Paul Chin and the new incoming director Manuel Alonso about the changes at la Pena and it new “second skin” project. This is a great moment to donate to La Pena as every dollar is doubled through a matching grant.
